Smita Sharma is a Delhi based award-winning photojournalist and visual storyteller focusing on human rights, gender violence, trafficking, and environmental issues in the Global South. A TED and IWMF fellow, she is a National Geographic photographer whose work on trafficking earned her the Amnesty International Media Award (UK) and the Fetisov Journalism Award (Switzerland). Her work also appears in The New York Times, WSJ, BBC World, TIME, Human Rights Watch, and more, and has been exhibited globally, including at the UN in New York and Geneva.

Her book We Cry In Silence won the POY International Award of Excellence and the 2023 Lucie Photo Book Prize. She teaches at the International Center of Photography, speaks widely on advocacy and public education, and serves on juries for major grants and awards such as Art Works Projects (Chicago), The Nature Conservancy Photo Contest (US). Her honors include Indian of the Year, Exceptional Women of Excellence, One World Media Award, Gender Warrior Award, Las Fotos Advocacy Award, and the 2025 Alexia Professional Vision Grant.
